About Lee

Some people love the corporate life. Others, not so much. Lee Kessler Communications was born in early 2001 after I realized which group I was part of.

I had a good job — head of shareholder marketing at
a large mutual fund company. I was working my way through the ranks fairly quickly. But as more of my time was spent managing a team, attending endless meetings, and working on my TPS reports, I realized how much I missed what I used to do — writing, editing, and most of all, creating.

It’s why I left behind my health insurance and four weeks' vacation to become an independent financial copywriter — developing annual reports, brochures, newsletters, and web sites for investment companies and marketing communications firms.

The move was win-win. I’m happy because I have lots of business, my commute is short, and I constantly get to work on new, interesting projects for
a lot of great clients. (Though my boss is a tyrant — he’s never satisfied.) My clients get all the benefits of a highly experienced, ultra-reliable communications professional for a lot less than the cost of a full-time employee.

Thanks very much.

Not that you asked...

Originally from upstate New York, I attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning degrees in American history and music. After several years in Washington, D.C., I moved to the Chicago area in 1994 and now live in Highland Park with my wife, Janene, a high school band director, and our son, Evan.

In my spare time, I’m an active amateur clarinetist, performing with the
Northbrook Symphony and formerly the Northshore Concert Band. I also love traveling, baseball, good movies, good restaurants, reading, and learning Italian.
